We like us!!

I found really interesting some of the contributions our friends are doing to the group. John and Jackie would like to share the following:
"The reasons we joined your group were;
  • To improve our Spanish
  • To understand (on a progressive basis) more about the country in which we now live
  • To help Spanish people understand more about speaking English and the English speaking world "
    "....collectively drawing up a list of topics that can be approached on a weekly basis or on a progressive basis spread over a number of weeks..."
    "Last thought; we are both believers in ‘learning by doing’ and so if we could devise projects that would be helpful to you/the community that we could all contribute to our language skills would be developed  through the pressure of delivering the projects along side Spanish colleagues and so would help us to understand of the culture that we are trying to adapt to"
    Our group seems to be starting up our creativity... Anyone is welcome to propose and decide upon its direction. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

Je suis Charlie

Peter's words:

"Below are a few words on Thursday’s topic, politics.

The world’s most divisive elements are nationalism and religion, for there has never been a conflict where one or both of them are not demonstrably at its epicentre. Where the world needs unity, politicians advocate separation like that recently proposed between Scotland and the UK or Catalonia from Spain. Such schisms represent proud tribalism motivated by ambitious, fiscally greedy politicians. Whole populations are being deceived into futile separatism where only the political elite and their rich supporters stand to gain at proletariat expense.

Last weeks terrorism in France resulted from separation. Therefore the world needs a new unifying change, where we drop nationalism and religion in favour of ‘Secular Internationalism’, the concept of one single, resource sharing human family.  My manuscript shows how this can be achieved and is the only viable resolution  to conflict and eventual self annihilation.

As a prelude to the concept of Secular Internationalism, we need return to the original definition of democracy i.e. rule by the common person rather than the sham currently enacted by exclusive over-privileged classes.  I suggest a ‘Voters Manifesto’ (V.M.)  Broadly speaking, this would allow the electorate to declare their desires with strict timetables for achieving them. Independent politicians or parties accordant with the V.M. would be voted in, thus producing more representative democracy.  This would not only eliminate the hustings with their fanciful declarations of intent but also curtail millionaire contributions to parties in exchange for business favours (insider information) or so called honours. Success or failure in implementing V.M. requirements, would be publicly judged resulting in instant dismissal without pay or compensation to failing individuals or parties.  This would be in keeping with real democracy.

Besos y brazos a todos,

Peter Wright
Je suis Charlie."
